Feeling Great and Finally Back on Track!

Hello friends! :)

I finally feel ready to post again.  I just couldn't bring myself to post when I was not staying true to the BFC and was actually gaining weight.

I have felt wiped out since August when my oldest two children started High School and Middle School.  The routine that we had for 9 years changed, drastically, and I have less "free" time (Yes... I'm having a little pity party over here).

I always posted in the morning before my kids got up and now they are up at 5:30am, getting ready, eating, etc.. and we're out the door at 7:00am. Then, I'm back home to make sure the horses get fed, homeschool the other three, chores, etc...

Then, even though I only let them do 1 activity/sport at a time, we had something every.... single.... night and on Saturdays.  My schedule didn't leave alot of time to meal plan or make healthy dinners since we were running kids to practices, going to games, etc...  I felt very defeated.  Until last week, since the fall we had not had one Monday-Thursday that our family had eaten dinner together (someone was always missing due to sports) and it really bugged me.  I know we all have the same 24 hours in a day and need to do our best to maximize our hours but I sure had a rough time pulling it all together.  Last week, indoor soccer and basketball ended so now we are all home on Mondays and Wednesdays at dinnertime :)  I am getting a handle on meal planning and have been doing great the past month and a half.

So, here is where I am at with the BFC.  Seven weeks ago, I saw that a gal I follow on Facebook was going to start an online Transformation group and I wanted to be a part of it. The foods were very, very similar to the BFC (and I knew that the BFC worked)so that's what appealed to me first and foremost. I was feeling too over-whelmed and wasn't feeling strong enough to do it on my own.  I knew I just needed to get the momentum going again.  For 12 weeks, she gives us a weekly exercise routine, weekly meal plans (and is now teaching us how to make our own meal plans), has  conference calls with us and is available for us when we have questions, concerns, etc... I jumped onboard since she had lost 136 lbs. in a year eating and exercising this way and has kept it off for 4 years. I am feeling great, losing weight, and getting in shape.  I am eating basically everything that I ate when I was on the BFC. I guess I just needed a swift kick in the pants and needed to be held very accountable for what I ate.

I know that making diet changes are very hard, although I attribute my success in the program to all that I learned with the BFC - and I mean that!!  Basically, I am eating the BFC way, (some days just a "little" more fruit and a few more whole wheat carbs).  I haven't been tracking my sugars and carbs (atleast not on paper but I have been tracking them mentally which I think we always do once we learn the BFC ways) but I will soon because I am curious as to how much over I am on my sugars with the fruit that I have been eating.

The exercises have been huge for me.  I am seeing muscles in places I have not seen in years!  Here are my first set of before and after photos taken last Sunday at the 6 week mark.  Now keep in mind, that even though I have only lost 6.4 lbs in those 6 weeks, I have gained alot of muscle and have lost 5.25 inches overall.

I know my blog is called "My BFC Journal" and since what I am eating is pretty in line with the BFC (again with the exception of a little more fruit) I felt that I could post about what I've been doing.  Sometime this week, I will post my food journals for the past 6 weeks so you can see exactly what I've been eating.  I know the BFC works and it turned my life around 2 1/2 years ago and showed me that change is possible, no matter your age or your circumstance if you just stay committed.  Stay strong and focused and you will reach your goal!!!  Have a great Saturday my friends!

  1. Wow, just wow! You look amazing! I am so excited for you:) I think any plan that is going to work forever has to be personalized so don't worry about the BFC part! I am certainly not legalistic on that! I would love to see the group on facebook that you are talking about. I'm Kay Rasmussen on there. I have seen Kim's post in the BFC groups but I don't know your last name:)
Your kids are only going to be young and running for a short time! Enjoy every second of it. I was supposed to go to my grandson's wrestling tournament today and my son called and said the gym is packed wall to wall and it didn't start for another hour:( I am bummed, but not enough to stuff myself in a gym with 400 kids and more adults! Wrestling people are interesting:)
I would love to see what you are eating with this gals plan. I did go to the 344 lbs blog and I like it!
Thank you for your nice comments, they make this old gal happy!!!

    1. Hi Kay :) Thanks for the nice comment. I will post what I've been eating sometime this week. I will have to jump over and check out the 344lbs. blog. Also, I found you on Facebook and sent you a Facebook request.:)
I couldn't agree with you more... our kids are only little, and living at home, for so long and then they're off! I'm trying to be at everything I can so they see me in the stands cheering them on!! :)

  2. Kim, you look great! I am so happy that you are back on track and found something that is working. Can you share the group that you are part of. I might want to check it out! Don't worry about whatever your blog is called and however you are tweaking the BFC plan. It is the basis of what we believe in and we all have to change things up alittle depending on what works. I really have to keep an eye on calories too, so I have been really trying to track in myfitnesspal. Keep up the good work and really those pictures show a big change in the right direction!! Sending hugs!! XO

    1. Hi Pattie!! :) The lady's name is Heather Fearneyhough. I saw her featured in an article in First for Women back in October and then found her page on Facebook. Her Facebook site is: Heathersfitspiration. When she posted on that site that she wanted to try coaching a small group, I jumped right on board. I did pay $150 for the 12-week program but it was sooo worth it to me because a personal trainer at my gym is $50 for ONE hour!! I wanted to know exactly how she had lost her weight. I figured if she could get me going in the right direction it would be worth it. This is her first online group so she is constantly striving to make it better for us. I'm not sure if/when she will do another one. The site that I posted above is where she posts daily inspirational quotes, etc.. for anyone to read. Our group meets in a private forum and that is where we post our weekly weigh-ins, meals, etc.. The plan that we are using is based on Tosca Reno's "Clean Eating". The funny thing is that several years ago I picked up her book and it didn't appeal to me so I gave the book to the Goodwill. Then I started the BFC and that made me realize the importance of low sugar and carbs. This time around, the Clean Eating is soooo much easier that it was the first time. Between the BFC and the Clean Eating, I think I've found a winning combination. Thanks for the nice comment on my post. :)

    2. I didn't type her FB site correctly. It is Heather's FITspiration. Sorry about that.

    3. That's funny Kim, because years ago I bought Tosca Reno's book and I ended up returning it. I also subscribed to her magazine ( I think it's called Clean Eating magazine) because I loved that she lists the sugar contents on her recipes which most don't. I let that subscription expire, but maybe i'll start it up again. Thanks for he info!! I already checked out Heather's facebook page. Anywhere we can get inspiration is always helpful! Keep up the good work!!

    4. Too funny, Pattie, that we both did that! And then to think I had to go pay for the book again. Actually, this time I got "Eat Clean Regarged" and I love it. I do think it's much easier to "Eat Clean" now that I've learned the BFC ways since they really are very similar. I will post what I've been eating on my blog some time this week. Have a great Sunday :)

  3. Kim I can't believe you only lost 6.4 pounds - it looks like so much more!! That is amazing for six weeks! I'm going to have to be like Pattie and go check out her site. I am really looking forward to you posting your food journals. I'm still looking for that "twist" in the plan to get me losing again! Congrats!

    1. Hi Beth :) Thanks for the nice compliment. I think the weight is not as low I as expected because I am gaining muscle... but I'm not sure. I have been losing it very slowly but thankfully it's staying off (except for one week). I started in a size 8 pants and am now back in a size 6. I got excited last week and went to the store to try on a pair of 4's and they fit great in the legs but not in the tummy.... so although "Eating Clean" encourages complex carbs at most meals, I am going to make sure to watch my carb intake (like in the BFC) to lose that belly fat. Thanks again for reading and leaving a nice comment and I'll post my food journals some time this week. Have a great Sunday!

    1. Thanks Rosalie! I attribute so much of my committment to losing the weight to you. Even though I don't post often, I read your blog every day and you motivate me! Thanks for the nice comment.

  5. Wow Kim! Wow! Glad to hear from you. You look great - this is obviously working for you :) I haven't been posting lately as I've been struggling with some serious anxiety/insomnia. I wonder if my very low carb woe contributed to it (but we'll never know). I'm following Paul Jaminet's Perfect Health Diet (http://perfecthealthdiet.com/) now which is pretty much paleo with some added "safe" starch (white rice, potato and fruit). I spoke with Paul on line re: my symptoms and he said they can be caused by very low carb (women especially are sensitive). My condition is starting to improve - albeit very slowly. It's been a very rough time. I am really enjoying my new eating freedom and have actually continued to lose weight. Funny since Paul told me that many who stall on their low carb woe will actually start losing again when they add back carbs. I’m not focused on my weight at the moment just trying to get better. I sure hope to post about it when I’m back on track. The doctor has directed me to stay off the internet until I was better (I’m cheating a little even checking in on everyone from time to time). Keep up the good work :)

    1. Hi Trina! I was so happy to hear from you. So sorry that you have been having a rough time. I think it's such a balancing act figuring out what works for each person individually. It sounds like you've found something that is helping you to feel better - and that makes me happy for you:) I am so grateful for starting the BFC because I have met all you wonderful ladies. I would love to hear all about your journey when you're ready. Until then, stay in touch and know that I'm thinking about you and hoping for the best. :)
